Diplomas in Humanities, Travel and Tourism and Science will be the next phase of Diplomas to be introduced locally. A number of institutions across the City have already expressed interest in offering them.

The Science Diploma will be phased in over two years with the Foundation and Higher level being introduced in September 2011, and the Advanced Science diploma now being introduced in September 2012.

Quality Handbook

The Diploma is a very complex qualification comprising a number of set components, so it is essential that quality procedures are in place, fully understood and followed by all partners. We are currently compiling the Diploma Quality Assurance Handbook to ensure consistency of systems and methods across Bradford and to ensure that the student experience is of the highest quality.

Quality Handbooks for partners, students and parents will be provided at the start of the academic year 2009/ 2010.

Exams Deadline Dates

Please make sure that your partnerships work closely with exams officers and admin staff who will play a critical role in succesful delivery.

Exams officers will need to identify Diploma learners and require specific data early Sptember to:

Register students by mid October
Enter students for January exams by mid October
Enter students for Summer exams by early March

All partners should be aware that Diploma Exam boards have strict deadlines which must be adhered to otherwise late fees are incurred.

Please work closely with your Exams officer to avoid financial penalties!

To ensure that Diploma IAG is of a consistently high standard Karen Birch will be running Diploma information sessions for Connexions PA s on .

'Diploma News- July

Welcome to the July issue of Diploma News, bringing you local and national Diploma related news.

Diploma Leads, Development Teams, and support staff have been working hard throughout the year preparing for September when a further seven Diploma lines will be available to Bradford students. Many thanks to all who have worked so hard to make the Diploma the right choice for the young people of the District and to provide them with a positive learning experience. We hope you all enjoy a well earned rest over the summer and look forward to working with you in September on the exciting challenges ahead.

The Bradford Experience

Young people in Bradford were amongst the first in the country to have the opportunity to study for the Diploma in Creative & Media in September 2008. As the academic year draws to a close we have circulated a short, anonymous student questionnaire to participating schools and college to gather valuable student feedback about their learning experiences. The feedback will be used to make changes where possible to improve the programmes offered.

Assessment workshops: 14 and 16 September 2009 :

14 September @ Keighley Training Group: 12.30-16.00

16 September @ LBEC Works : 12.30-16.00

Diploma assessment is a particularly complex area and it is essential that teaching staff have a solid understanding of the marking system.

It is strongley recommended that all Diploma practitioners attend the assesssment training sessions facilitated by Karen Birch and Elaine Bowers, Diploma Lead Assessors for Bradford.

Collaborative Learning Manager (CLM)

The CLM tracking system is currently being piloted in selected areas across the Confederations. The system is set to be introduced at the start of the academic year for all Diploma lines. Training sessions and user guides will be available early in September for teaching and admin staff .
